Scientific Program

This year, the SS’18 team has prepared a condensed and specialized medical training in which you get to choose between 5 of our leading departments in Kasr Al-Ainy hospitals. After applying to a maximum of 3 desired preferences out of the 5 mentioned below, you will be accepted in the program for which you match the required criteria according to the evaluation of your application form and the available spots.

Gynecology & Obstetrics

The Gynecology & Obstetrics training program is designed to ensure basic academic and clinical training provided by the Cairo University Obstetrics and Gynecology department 
The program ensure learning,observation and active participation of the students and interaction with staff members.
The gynecology and obstetrics hospital provided with 297 beds for the inpatients unit, 2 surgery units and a huge emergency unit; other-than the outpatient clinics. The high flow-rate of patients will provide an excellent chance to learn and see a lot of rare and extreme cases throughout the program.


The following topics will be covered:

  • Basic symptomatology & examination
  • Gynecology outpatient clinic
  • Obstetrics outpatient clinic
  • Emergency unit
  • Normal labour
  • Basics of ultrasound


Schistosomiasis, Egyptian splenomegaly and many different diseases that you get to learn about ONLY in our Tropical medicine’s department. You’ll have the opportunity to know more about endemic diseases in Egypt and other tropical areas. You’ll have the opportunity to see various stages of the diseases, and how they are managed.

By the end of this program, you’ll have a better understanding of modes of transmission, methods of prevention, and the epidemiology of the diseases.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Schistosomiasis
  • Viral Hepatitis
  • Tuberculosis
  • Liver Cirrhosis
  • Hepatocellular Carcinoma
  • Portal Hypertension
  • Enterology Diseases (like Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Crohn’s, Ulcerative colitis....)
  • Basics of Endoscopy


The ophthalmology unit is one of the most sophisticated yet fascinating units in Kasr A;-Ainy. This is apparent in its laboratories that are equipped with the latest tools and devices in the field of laser-treated cases and corneal examination.Furthermore, the department serves 3600 people annually for free. You will have a chance to take a glimpse of this spectacular unit and get trained on common eye problems as errors of refracion, retinopathies and allergies. There is also the opportunity to take a closer look at the patients that visit the ER frequently and meet elite physicians.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Emergencies& trauma in ophthalmology
  • Eye infections
  • Trachoma & other disorders of the conjunctiva
  • Ocular opacities


This is an adequate choice for students who have limited clinical experience and want to learn all about basic surgical skills and medical emergencies.

Sessions will be held to help you train and develop all the skills needed in an ER in a safe environment under the supervision of a member of our medical staff.

 You’ll get the opportunity to attend in Kasr Al-Ainy’s ER, which is an experience you can hardly obtain in any other hospital. Kasr Al-Ainy, being in the heart of Cairo, its ER is the main ER in a very large area span and known to deal with extreme emergencies.

 Its advantageous location in the heart of Cairo allows Kasr Al-Ainy hospitals as well as its emergency rooms to be the most occupied and well-known in a very large area span. Hence, ER doctors in the hospitals deal with a wide range of emergencies, from the simplest to the most extreme.

 The large variety and number of patients, the physicians highly-skilled in stress and chaos management, and the recently inaugurated Trauma and Emergencies Unit make this an experience hard to obtain elsewhere.


Course covers the following topics:

  • Basic Life Support.
  • Basic Surgical Skills.
  • Surgical emergencies.
  • Medical emergencies.
  • Triage


Two Pediatric hospitals in Kasr Al-Ainy, with around 405 beds in each, serving around 250,000 patients/year each; meaning that it is one of the best hospitals when it comes to learning about Pediatric emergencies and Infection Control.

We have 26 beds in the intensive care unit, and 16 beds in the emergency department. Moreover, we have all the subspecialties, and a special Pediatrics’ surgery operations room.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Rheumatic and congenital heart diseases.
  • Down syndrome & cerebral palsy.
  • Pneumonias & chest infections.
  • Hematological disorders.
  • Pediatric Emergencies.
