Tropical Medicine 2008

Andreea Roman

Continuing our "How to cook a great cooking" advices, I will give you now a perfect recipe of friendship, hospitality, work, mixed with unforgettable memories!! It's called "The IFMSA Exchange, August 2007 in Egypt Recipe" :-)

It has a long name & it takes a top chef to prepare it...!!

FOOD CATEGORY: One that should be tasted at least once in your life! It's Egyptian with a touch of international cuisine!

More SPECIFIC: In Cairo , the Students' Scientific Society “SSS”

COOKING TIME: 30 days.

ENERGY VALUE: One that will make you go on & on & still want some more :)

Chef: The SSS' kitchens:

STEPS:

- Take a fresh, well washed, group of young, enthusiastic, future to be doctors (We used for August; 1 Finnish,2 Germans,1 French, 1 Austrian,2 from Switzerland, 4 from U.K., 7 from Denmark, 1 from Serbia, 2 from Romania, 3 Turkish and 4 Tunisians). Put them all to planes, all with the final destination: CAIRO , Egypt .

- Mix them all gently in the biggest "Hot Pan"(city) in Africa . Together with 17 million people and even more cars, noisy streets, shops, quiet back streets with coffee shops, backgammon, and oriental mystery

- Introduce them to the huge 'Kasr Al Ainy" hospital; one of the biggest medical centers in Middle East, a place where you can see every disease you heard about but never had the opportunity to link to a case.

- Place them into comfortable beds and let them rest at 20 degrees Celsius (thank you God for the A.C) to compensate the steaming hot weather outside.

- Make sure that they don't ever sleep again & watch them wander at late night hours that would scare an average person (but not the ones that live in the City that never sleeps) following strictly the idea that "we only have one life, why sleep it?":)

- During this sleepless period:

  • Go on a Nile cruse by night with the felluca

  • Go to Khan Al Khalili

  • Have a “Gallabeyyah” party

  • Go to a cinema

  • Go shopping

  • Spend quality time bowling

  • Eat different delicious oriental meals for dinner

ESSENTIAL FOOD ADDITIVES:

- Have an incredible well organized social program & take a tour in Egypt using all means of transportation; taxis, personal cars of SSS members, metro, planes, camel ,horse ,train, felluca and even on foot.

-Enjoy sight-seeing at the Great Pyramids of Giza , the Sphinx and The Egyptian Museum, they are all must-sees

- Travel 9 hours to Dahab , the perfect spot for scuba-diving, and diving in the Red Sea

- Take them to a bedouin night out, or go through the most adventurous climb of Mount Sinai

- Show them the desert: the White, the Black and the Crystal Mountain . Let them sleep under the falling stars, make a jeep race & serve them pan-cakes for breakfast!!

- Discover the ancient temples of Luxor and Karnak, Valley of the Kings and of the Queens ,

- Explore Alexandria , the Egyptian main port on the Mediterranean Sea .

Finally... Take the great cooking off the pan & invite all your old and new friends….., serve to your guests & everything in plates will disappear very quickly just as all good things in our life do, but don't worry, having the meal with drinking some of the Nile water will make the taste everlasting & you will get back there to Egypt once more in your life according to the Egyptian myth….

Forget about 'GREAT EXPECTATIONS", as what you will find is more than you could imagine.

Now: BON APETIT...OR SHOULD I SAY...SEHHA!!
