Kasr Al Ainy Medical School, Cairo, Egypt

Egypt’s 7000 years old civilization is considered one of the greatest in the world. It lies in the center of the world between Africa & Asia, and is the gate from Europe to Africa.

More than 1/3 of the whole world’s ancient monuments lie on the land of Egypt.

Cairo is the capital city, and is one of the most important cities in the Middle East especially since it serves as the meeting place of many International, African and Arabic conferences concerned with almost all categories: scientific, literary, social and economical. Cairo’s population alone is about 20 million people, making it one of the largest cities in the world regarding population.

This population is divided into different socioeconomic classes, and so, one meets people from every social status while walking the streets of Cairo.

Kasr El-Ainy Hospital, founded in 1827, is the biggest & oldest public hospital in Egypt and in the Middle East. Since it serves most Egyptian governorates, doctors are able to come in contact with an enormous number of patients from all over the country, becoming familiar with the most chronic and endemic diseases in Egypt.

General Instructions

General Clothing:

Ability to breathe is the key to successful travel clothing. We advise students to bring casual, comfortable and loose-fitting garments that can be added to or removed from, in layers that can easily be changed depending on the weather as Cairo is famous for its scorching sun in the day and its chilly evenings. We must urge students to make sure their clothes are modest, both men and women: shoulders covered, with skirts & shorts below the knee. Comfortable walking shoes are essential.

The Hospital:

Please wear your white coat. Necklaces and earrings for boys are not allowed. A modest, conservative attitude is highly appreciated.

In the hospital, students should be punctual, attentive and try to get the most knowledge from their professors and teachers.

What to bring:

These are important items we urge students to get along; they might be needed during their stay:

- White coat.

- Stethoscope.

- A textbook on the specialty.

- Personal photos & faculty (medical school) papers for ID cards.

- Pocket money.

- Lip balm, sun block, an umbrella and a hat are important as the Egyptian sun may be FEROCIOUS!

Arrival

We will do our best to pick you from the airport. If it's not possible for any reason, you will get a detailed instruction on how to reach the hostel.
