This was another dream coming true, we were wandering could medicine be FUN, could learning and studying be any interesting!!
And surprisingly we discovered that learning could be so MUCH FUN, we learnt new ways of studying...

MEDICINE IS FUN!!
In SCOME 3l Qahwa we are all students, yes STUDENTS but we do learn and benefit from eachother, simply it's a problem based peer education sessions, where we applied two new quite interesting approaches of learning:
1- Peer to peer education
2- "problem-based learning" techniques while we are having tons of Fun and enjoying studying...

SCOME 3l Qahwa sessions were started December 2009 and these are regular sessions held every week where we discuss real time case scenarios, and we go through clinical medicine and we explore some clinical tips and then we have our break and refresh for a nice re-start :)
the first session was held in December 2009 and the weekly sessions continued till April, the sessions were paused due to the exams and the vacation period and they are to be continued by the begining of October 2010.
We had sessions in the different fields of medicine:
"Surgery, Internal Medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics, how to interpret ECG......etc"

The IFMSA Exchange program is extremely popular among students.
Unfortunately, travel is not easy for all students,
and although they are usually free in the summer,
they never have the chance to train in a hospital. Therefore, we decided to bring the exchange program right to their doorsteps. The program was launched this
year as a replica of the already existing exchange program and over 200 students applied.

The training is in the form of a ''shadowing clerkship'' where the students follow the house officers or resident in daily activities in the ward, outpatient clinic and operating theatres.

The training available this year will be in the following departments:

- Haematology & Stem cells

**For FOURTH, FIFTH & SIXTH year students:
- General Surgery
- Internal medicine

- Attending the 1st day of the training is mandatory. On the occasion of missing it, an applicant from the waiting list will take your place.

- INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE CONSIDERED INVALID AND WILL BE DISCARDED.

On July 10th 2007 in the Main Conference Hall, at Kasr El Ainy Medical School, the Diabetes Mellitus Research Competition Conference was held.

The Conference was the final stage of the SSS DM Research Competition, which was under preparation since the beginning of the academic year and launched on February the 15th. Out of dozens abstracts and researches submitted online, only 8 were chosen to present their work in front of a highly respected jury formed of a number of pioneers who added to the Medical Field in the Egyptian Community. WHO representatives, faculty staff members and international participants are on the conference's attendance list.

The aim of the Research Competition is to give a number of Medical Students a first-of-its-kind chance to explore the world of research - the making and presenting - in the amiable, young and fresh atmosphere of peer education. We aim, hope and work on creating a Medical Student with self-tutoring, able to master the art of change.
The competition went through a number of phases, from the initial choice of applicants through their online submitted abstracts, to the organization of an online Evidence Based Medicine training, as well as a presentation skills training to the finalists. With this unprecedented approach at our faculty, we aim to prove that the Medical Student can support the improvement of our academic life with creative, up-to-date ideas that would benefit our fellow colleagues in years to come.

The first prize winner of this competition was rewarded by a once in a lifetime fully funded one month clinical training opportunity in Switzerland including plane tickets, accommodation and the training. The second and third prize winners were also rewarded with other prizes in appreciation for their efforts, work and achievement.

This is one of the international projects we took part in as a local committee.
The target of this project was to give a real depiction of the problems facing medical students: physical, mental and psychological.
First step was distributing questionnaires among the students from each year, then, analysis of the data we collected. After that, a report summarizing the common problems was created in cooperation with the other medical student association within IFMSA-Egypt.
The most important step, however, is finding suitable solutions for these problems. We are currently working on the ‘Anti-stress campaign’, which will soon be held here in Kasr Al Ainy.

We planned this project with 1st year medical students in mind. Our goal is not only to help those inexperienced students get around, but also in the interest of the development of medical education, we aim at encouraging them to take a keen interest in their studies. Consequently, through proper care and support, those freshmen will mature into bright, diligent doctors, able to set goals and achieve them.

We started working on our local project ‘Getting Started’ with two main objectives. First, we wanted to give freshmen a good impression of their college to help them adjust to the major step they had taken in their lives. We wanted to inform them of the available extracurricular activities, specifically those related to our society. Furthermore, we wanted to familiarize them with the college system through providing useful information & guidelines that will help them take the long journey!

In order to achieve these goals, we were eager to create an eye-catching logo for the project; we chose "footsteps" to indicate that the first steps to achieving success started with us. We attracted a lot of publicity, not only among the first year students, but also throughout the whole faculty, with people following the footsteps that ended up at the SSS office.

Next, we worked on the ‘Getting started’ sessions. We wanted to give them the information in a different, interactive way. We held small sessions for the first year students, where we talked about the major problems that they might face on social, psychological & scientific level, while being realistic. We planned to recruit a group of our outstanding students to introduce these sessions in order to make them more appealing & applicable.

The outcome was amazing with feedback indicating 98% said it was very useful. Therefore, we played a positive part in these students’ lives and due to the interest we generated; we received many applications on our new membership acceptance season.
